Updates from WATDEV in East Africa

The DeSIRA project “Climate Smart Water Management and Sustainable Development for Food and Agriculture in East Africa” WATDEV addresses water challenges in East Africa’s agriculture, focusing on climate-smart water management. This project aims to enhance water, soil, and agricultural practices in Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt. The project includes collecting, evaluating, and recording BMPs, conducting awareness sessions, and providing training. WATDEV is led by the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) Bari.

In December 2023, CIHEAM conducted the 1st Module of a Training of Trainers on “Water, Soil, and Crop Management in Climate-Smart Agriculture”. The Course was the result of the collaborative efforts among the project partners, which include the Italian National Research Council  (CNR), the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), Heliopolis University (HU), Water and Land Resource Centre, Addis Ababa University (WLRC), WRC Water Resource Centre University of Khartoum, and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO).
