Clima-LoCa actively participated in COP16, held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024, as part of the global biodiversity summit. The project was featured in two key events within the Green Zone, promoting sustainable cacao production through agroforestry systems. On October 21, Clima-LoCa, in collaboration with Biodiversal, presented its work on biochar in coffee systems and agroforestry in cacao farms, highlighting tools like cacaodiversity.org to support regenerative practices. On October 25, Clima-LoCa shared its initiatives in promoting agroecological practices to enhance soil health and cacao resilience, focusing on efficient fertilizer use, organic inputs, and soil health training.
The project also contributed to discussions on agroecological innovations in DeSIRA projects and participated in activities organized by Bioversity International and CIAT. Clima-LoCa’s involvement at COP16 aimed to raise awareness of climate challenges and foster actions to benefit both local communities and the global environment. The project aligns with COP15 biodiversity goals, specifically in reducing climate change impacts on biodiversity, improving sustainability in agriculture, and promoting soil health through practices that mitigate cadmium levels in cacao production.
