To be a leader who builds governance in their territory requires specific knowledge about the regulatory context, self-governance instruments, and territorial boundaries. These knowledge needs were identified by the leaders of the 15 community councils and the board of directors of COCOMACIA during the diagnostic phase in August 2023. Based on this need and in accordance with the leadership strengthening plan co-created with them, the IDeas – DeSIRA team conducted two workshops during February 2024 in the communities:
1. Strengthening Community Governance: Law 70 and Decree 1745, internal regulations of the community councils, resolution of COCOMACIA’s collective title, and the Atrato River sentence (T-622).
2. Cartography: topics covered included technical cartography, social cartography, concepts of scale, conventions, identification and verification of local council territorial boundaries, mapping of territory use spaces, and digital tools for georeferencing.
