New TAP partners and FAO e-learning Course: Tropical Agriculture Platform

The FAO Office of Innovation and the FAO e-learning Academy, with support from the European Commission, and in close collaboration with the TAP Partners are launching the certified e-learning course “Tropical Agriculture Platform”.

The course, which is certified through the online digital badge system, is now available online, free of charge, and as a global public good, through the FAO e-learning Academy

This course presents the main principles, concepts and approaches of the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) Common Framework on Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (CDAIS), developed by international experts to strengthen innovation capacities in low- and middle-income countries.

For who?

This e-learning course is relevant for Agricultural Innovation System (AIS) actors including agricultural research systems, agricultural extension and advisory services, agricultural universities and research institutions, global and regional fora for agricultural research and farmer organizations. Primarily, this course targets:

  • Agriculture professionals.
  • Capacity development professionals.
  • Policy-makers involved in developing strategies and programmes on agricultural transformation.
  • Providers of innovation support services.

  • Innovation in the context of FAO’s Strategic Framework.
  • Dimensions of capacity development and how TAP is addressing capacity gaps in the tropics.

Course structure:

The course consists of 6 lessons, of approximately 30-40 minutes duration each:

  • Lesson 1 – Agricultural Innovation Systems – concepts and elements
  • Lesson 2 – Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (AIS)
  • Lesson 3 – Capacity needs assessments and strengthening at innovation niche level
  • Lesson 4 – Capacity needs assessments and strengthening at organization level
  • Lesson 5 – Strengthening the enabling environment
  • Lesson 6 – The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework
