From September 9 to 20, 2024, CIHEAM Bari hosted the second module of the “Water, Soil, and Crop Management in a Climate-Smart Agriculture” course, focusing on innovative technologies in agriculture and water management. The training, attended by 20 participants from Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sudan, included both virtual and in-person sessions, equipping stakeholders with the skills to tackle environmental challenges using advanced technologies.
The virtual sessions covered topics such as precision agriculture, AI in farming, and the role of technology producers in smart agriculture. The in-person training in Italy involved hands-on practice with drones for agricultural monitoring and solar-powered irrigation systems. Participants also visited the Puglia Region Aqueduct Management Authority to explore smart water management and wastewater reuse.
A workshop at Metapontum Agrobios focused on plant phenotyping and saline agriculture, while final visits to innovative businesses in Gravina di Puglia showcased sustainable practices like gluten-free pasta production and spirulina algae farming. The program also incorporated cultural visits to enrich participants’ experience. This training aimed to enhance sustainable agriculture practices and promote knowledge sharing within the region.
