Water resource management is a critical issue in East Africa, particularly concerning irrigation and food security.
This database stems from collaborative research involving CNR, HU, KALRO, WLRC, WRC, and CIHEAM Bari. It aims to catalogue effective management practices utilized in the WATDEV project’s study areas, partner countries, and other African regions sharing similar agroclimatic conditions. The focus is on identifying and promoting practices that have demonstrated effectiveness but are currently implemented locally and sporadically. In this context, “the best management practice” is defined as any successful approach, technology, method, or organizational process facilitating the sustainable and efficient utilization of water, land, and energy resources while safeguarding the environment. Each project may encompass multiple practices. CIHEAM Bari has evaluated these practices to determine their alignment with the needs articulated by local farming communities in the study areas.
Your suggestions on additional good management practices are welcome. For further information, please reach out to the project coordination team.
